Ladybird By Design.

On Friday the 8th of May I went to the Ladybird by Design exhibition which was very interesting and nice to look at. Below if you click on the link is one of the books that caught my eye in particular.

This composition of this piece was very well done the detail put into the piece is very intricate for a children’s book. When looking around the exhibition it showed how the book were prepared before they were done and the grids they used for text to make sure everything works well. I like the consistency of the layouts of the books with the logo and the the typography it shows the relation of the books themselves. The illustration of this book was done by illustrator John Berry in 1971.

This image in the link above really stood out to me, I found the composition here really balanced and well done including all of the vintage cars in the background and her shadow behind her. It is almost like a photograph looking closely at the illustration I could see the original pencil lines which showed how the detailed illustration was developed. The tiny brush strokes used gave texture to the imagery especially with the pavement and facial hair on the male policeman. The artist I believe intensionally used the different brushes and smoother and rougher strokes to create different textures to make particular thing really pop out. I like the way these books show our british culture by the original police uniforms and the typical red buses known all over the world as the London buses. The police hat also I think really shows british culture at its best as well as in he video by Lawrence Zeegan showing that police officers users the use the motor car books as a simple explanation of what was under the bonnet of there car. It showed that people of all ages in Britain would use the books as they were so simple it was an easier read to get something done or use as an information book.
